Minimum wages - employment law

Key Insights for Compliance and Fair Compensation

As of January 1, 2024, the minimum wage in California stands at $16.00 per hour for all employers. However, certain sectors will see adjustments:

  • Fast Food Restaurant Employers: Effective April 1, 2024, fast food restaurant employers must adhere to a higher minimum wage. Employees covered by this law must be paid a minimum of $20.00 per hour.
  • Healthcare Facility Employers: Effective June 1, 2024, healthcare facility employers will also see an increase in the minimum wage.

City and County Variances:

It’s important to note that some cities and counties in California have established minimum wages higher than the state’s rate. Employers should consult the list of City and County minimum wages maintained by UC Berkeley for specific information.

By staying informed about minimum wage requirements and any industry-specific adjustments, employers can uphold fair compensation practices and compliance with state regulations.
